It is a privilege and honour to serve as President of Te Whakarōpūtanga Kaitiaki Kura o Aotearoa, New Zealand School Boards Association.
My journey in education governance began through a commitment to serving young people, families and communities. I have been involved in school governance for over a decade, serving as a trustee, Proprietor’s Representative, Presiding Member, Deputy Presiding Member and Auckland Regional Executive Chair. Alongside my governance experience, my background in law and policy has strengthened my understanding of the importance of effective decision-making, accountability and advocacy.
I believe strong governance creates strong schools. Across Aotearoa New Zealand, our boards face unique challenges and opportunities, but we share a common purpose - to support our learners to achieve their potential and ensure our schools continue to serve their communities well.
Every board, regardless of size or location, deserves to feel supported, connected and confident in its role. As President, I am committed to listening to our members, strengthening governance capability, and ensuring the voice of school boards continues to be heard.
Our greatest strength is our collective experience. By sharing knowledge, supporting one another and working collaboratively, we can continue to build a stronger and more connected governance community.
Thank you for the trust and confidence you have placed in me. I look forward to working alongside our board, staff, regional executives, trustees, principals, whānau, communities and education partners.
At the heart of everything we do are our children and young people - their learning, their wellbeing and their future. Together, we will continue to support them to thrive.
