Te Whakarōpūtanga Kaitiaki Kura o Aotearoa or New Zealand School Boards Association (NZSBA) is a membership-based organisation, representing New Zealand state and state-integrated schools and kura. We provide services to all New Zealand school boards on a contract-for-service partnership with the Ministry of Education. Find out more here.
NZSBA offers a number of services that are only available to member boards.
NZSBA membership benefits include a subscription to our monthly membership magazine, Onboard, regional newsletters published each term as well as exclusive regional events, member-only memos, resources and publications and the opportunity to attend the NZSBA Annual Conference. They also include access to member-only benefits and discounts.
Members also directly benefit from being a critical part of a strong, national organisation which gets its strength from a large collective membership. It is this collective power which enables NZSBA to be a vital part of all relevant education-related decisions and in national policy formulation.
Membership of NZSBA is open to school boards by annual subscription, payable by 31 March each year. A proforma invoice is forwarded to all school boards, along with an open letter to all school board members in November each year.
If your board is not a current member, enquire about joining NZSBA today.

Our members trust us to represent their values and views—because we stay connected through strong regional networks. Each of our eleven regions is led by a Regional Executive, made up of elected members who understand the unique needs of their communities.
Member boards not only have the opportunity to vote for their Regional Executive—they can also stand for election themselves. It’s a chance to lead locally, shape national advocacy, and ensure your region’s voice is heard.
Regional Executives are vital to NZSBA’s mission. They strengthen our collective impact by gathering insights, building relationships, and driving change. If you're passionate about supporting your region, we encourage you to stand for your Regional Executive and help shape the future.
Our members believe in us and have confidence that we represent their values and views because we have a personal connection with them through our regional networks. The strength we have regionally is used to effect and influence change at a national level.
