Regional Advisor Governance
Based in Waikato or Hawkes Bay (Remote/ WFH)

About the role
We are looking for a dynamic, credible, relationship-focused professional to work alongside school boards across the central regions — providing them with advice, support and guidance to govern effectively and achieve the best possible outcomes for their students and kura.
You will bring strong knowledge of governance practice and the education sector, paired with the ability to assess and understand a board needs, build trusted relationships, and develop tailored professional development and learning plans that meet the needs of each board you work with.
This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week) work from home position based in either the Waikato or Hawkes Bay. The role covers schools and kura across the central regions, with travel as required to provide on-the-ground support. There will also be a requirement to attend team and full staff meetings, which may be held in other locations. A work vehicle is provided.
You will need to be comfortable working flexibly outside of usual office hours when required and genuinely enjoy the variety and connection that comes with travel to meet the schools and boards you support.

You will have a good knowledge of leadership and governance, preferably having served on a school board
You will love building relationships with people from all walks of life
You will be solution focused and have great skills in resolving conflict
You lead with high emotional intelligence and deep sense of empathy, allowing you to connect with people and navigate complex situations with care
You enjoy challenges, reflective practice, and being an active learner
You understand the requirements of working within a legislative framework
A confident facilitator of learning and development
You will love working flexibly, by yourself and as part of a team, and really enjoy exceeding people’s expectations
Understanding of and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori, including comfort in a te reo Māori environment.

Te Whakarōpūtanga Kaitiaki Kura o Aotearoa – New Zealand School Boards Association (NZSBA) is the professional body for school boards in New Zealand, representing and advocating for our members and providing services to all state and state-integrated schools and kura.
NZSBA is at the heart of school governance. We influence and inform policy and sector outcomes; we support and enable school boards to flourish; we connect like-minded people through our learning and networking opportunities; we strengthen communities by helping students achieve.
Te Whakarōpūtanga Kaitiaki Kura o Aotearoa was established in 1989, following the introduction of New Zealand’s largest school reform, Tomorrow’s Schools. We are a not-for-profit incorporated society with charitable trust status.
Our service delivery arm, GovHub School Board Services, provides support to all board members via Ministry of Education funding, while our membership arm provides independent advocacy for school boards to the government and the rest of the education sector. Approximately 80% of all school boards are members, enjoying access to exclusive regional and national events, benefits and discounts, as well as a direct say in how we advocate.
