Principal Eligibility Criteria announced
In late August 2023, the Minister for Education announced the principal eligibility criteria that will come into force on 1 March 2024. Schools who are recruiting a new principal and have not completed the appointment process before the 1 March 2024, will need to ensure that the successful appointee meets the eligibility criteria.

Planning and Reporting
Preparation for your 2024-2025 strategic plan should be well underway by now. We recommend that you attend one of our face-to-face workshops to learn about the new framework and what you need to know. If you can’t attend one of these, you should join our upcoming webinar (see above for links to these events).
The Ministry of Education is currently reviewing and updating the New Zealand Curriculum for all state schools. This is a staged roll out from the Aotearoa NZ Histories curriculum (in place from Term 3, 2023) – to all curriculum areas by 1 Jan 2027. All board members should have an awareness of the potential time commitment and resourcing required by staff implementing these new curriculum changes when planning for 2024-2025. Your teaching staff will be working on incorporating the Aotearoa NZ Histories, English, and Maths and Statistic Curriculum areas over the next two years.
Each year the Ministry of Education undertakes a survey about the services NZSTA is contracted to provide to boards. This is an important way the Ministry checks in with you about your experience of the services NZSTA offers and our progress on key performance measures as agreed in our contract with the Ministry.
The survey can be completed by each individual board member regarding their own personal experience of NZSTA’s services. You can access the survey here.
