About the role

Advisors in our Advisory Support Centre (ASC) fulfil an important role in supporting schools in the compulsory education sector. As part of the employment team, you are typically the first point of contact for schools with an employment query or issue.    

You will take inbound calls and respond to emails, providing advice to those enquiries which can be answered at point of contact or within a 48-hour timeframe.  Queries requiring ongoing support are triaged then referred to our regional advisory teams to be case managed.

We have a full suite of resources for your use plus access to our chief advisors and the national employment team for support and guidance.

The opportunity to work on a diverse range of employment and HR enquiries will keep you busy and stimulated. The advice and support you provide will assist boards and school leaders to resolve queries or access ongoing regional support.  

The work of our ASC team is appreciated and valued by the compulsory school sector, the Ministry of Education, and our sector partners. 

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) preferably based in our national office on Lambton Quay, Wellington.  However, suitable candidates from other regions will be considered. Flexible working arrangements (including working from home and flexible time during the school holidays) are available for this role, subject to negotiation.

About you

  • ER/HR experience with relevant qualifications or work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building capabilities
  • Strong customer service delivery ethos
  • Able to remain calm under pressure, resilient and empathetic to deal with a wide range of sensitive and complex enquiries
  • Able to prioritise workload and competing demands
  • Ability to interpret legislation and other relevant provisions and policies
  • Proven ability to participate as a positive, and effective team member
  • A collegial team member, willing to learn from others and contribute to the learning of others
  • A high degree of professional integrity with the ability to remain impartial and maintain confidentiality are essential for the role
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori, including comfort in te reo Māori environment.
